Capcom holds Monster Hunter Summer Course '08
Strict instruction provided for players trying to get into blockbuster series.
Monster Hunter fanatics in the English speaking world may have heard of some sort of "Monster Hunter Summer Course '08" event by now. So what is this latest event for one of Capcom's most popular domestic franchises all about? The Japanese language media was invited to the event and delivered full reports, a summary of which can be found here.
As the name might suggest, this event is indeed themed around a school course. Taking place at Tokyo's Rissho University through multiple sessions on August 9 and 10, the Tokyo outing of the event instructed participants in the basics of the Monster Hunter series using a black board, then split everyone into groups with names like "G Level Hunter Raising Course," and "Girls Hunter Mixing Class." As players challenged Portable 2nd G quests, instructors provided guidance which, according to Dengeki Online, was sometimes strict.
Portable 2nd G producer Ryouzou Tsujimoto and planner Shintaro Kojima appeared at the event, with Tsujimoto acting as principal and Kojima acting as class leader. In addition to providing introductory comments, the two closed off the event with Tsujimoto saying, "The Monster Hunter series is approaching its fifth anniversary next year. I can't say anything, but we have some plans, so please keep an eye out."
Outside of the play instruction, the event featured art galleries and early sales for upcoming summer Monster Hunter goods.
While the Tokyo event is finished, Capcom will take the event to Sendai on the 12th and 13th, and its home town of Osaka on the 15th and 16th. For details on getting in, see the [a href=http://www.capcom.co.jp/monsterhunter/P2ndG/summer08.html]course information page[/a].
