DSi Special Part 12: DSi takes DSi sold out sign pics

That's ironical!

It should be pretty clear now that the DSi's camera sucks. But who knows... maybe Nintendo consciously decided to make one of those cameras that takes better pictures at night? You know... one of those night cameras?

To test the system's night shooting capabilities, I took the system out at night and shot pictures.

Well what else were you expecting?

Late launch day, I had a couple of errands to run including picking up a second pre-order from Bic Camera in Shinjuku prior to closing (when the pre-order becomes invalid) and grabbing pics of all the sold out signs. I also ended up taking a few general night view shots in Shinjuku and Shibuya.

First up, a couple of sold-out signs in the 'Buya area:

To the left, the Bic Camera outside the station's east exit. To the right, a small sold out sign on the basement game floor of Tsutaya.

The Tsutaya is shown to the right in this familiar shot:

To the left of the Tsutaya building:

The right pic shows the main gateway to Center-gai, a street where all those foreigners stand around selling drugs. I took the shot in black and white, but it turns out that getting rid of the color doesn't help the DSi camera any. The left pic shows some random street performance.

Too bad the black guy who plays drums wasn't there today (he's been drumming since I first came to Japan 8 years ago).

Below, a bit down the street from the station:

That's the famous 109 building in the left shot (showing an ad for a Terminator product of some form... I stopped paying attention to the series after they ruined it with Terminator 3).

The right shot is a fashion show that was taking place in front of the 109 building. The DSi camera is the natural enemy of hot girls.

Next, it was on to Shinjuku. But first, here's an ad I spotted at a train station in nearby Yoyogi:

That's right, it's a DSi ad being taken by the DSi camera. This would be ironic if the ad were promoting the quality of the camera, but it actually just refers to the camera as "Interesting Camera."

A few minutes walk from Yoyogi takes you to the surroundings of the absolutely giant Shinjuku train station, where you might see night scenes like this:

To the left, some random corner surrounding the station (fun fact -- turn left and walk down the street for about 10 minutes, and you'll end up at the Square Enix home office).

To the right, Krispy Kreme, where stupid, stupid people are waiting in what's probably an hour long line to get donuts that aren't really any better than the donuts that you can get immediately from one of the billion Mr. Donuts in the area. The line is usually longer, believe it or not, stretching around the corner of the shop.

Unfortunately, the DSi camera doesn't fare too well with line pics. You just can't make out the faces of the stupid people.

Finally, some scenes from the Shinjuku Yodobashi camera:

The sign to the right (shown in better quality here) is the store's sign saying that all sales were done exclusively through pre-order).

Just one more shot, from the trip back to Shibuya...

It's one of those Grand Theft Auto IV ads from my pre-GTAIV release coverage. Can you find the GTA ad?
