Musou 5 tops million as Koei posts increased earnings

Sales and earnings up for first half of year.

Koei shared today its earnings statement for the second quarter, covering April 1 through September 30.

The company posted sales of 12,627 million yen for the period, with operating income reaching 3,222 million yen. These were both up over the first half of last year.

In its core games business, sales reached 7,795 million yen, with operating profit at 1,375 million yen.

The company pointed to Shin Sangoku Musou 5 as being a strong seller. While not breaking down sales across platform, the PS3, PS2 and Xbox 360 versions of the game together topped the million mark, it said. The Musou Orochi series has reached total sales of 1.70 million units, the company noted, following European and North American releases for the Maou Sairin sequel.

Regarding future plans, the company said that it expects strong demand for games during the Christmas season thanks to pricing and hardware revisions for systems.

For the full year, the firm expects sales to reach 30,000 million yen, and operating income 7,000 million yen.
