Dragon Quest IX goes playable at Jump Festa
Square Enix reveals lineup for year-end event.
Square Enix opened a special website today for this year's Jump Festa. The big news from the site is confirmation that Dragon Quest IX will appear in playable form.
This year's Square Enix booth will have a lineup of over 25 titles. Currently, the following are confirmed as being on playable display:
- Dragon Quest IX
- Dragon Quest Monsters Battle Road II
- Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days
- Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep
- Kingdom Hearts Coded
- Kingdom Hearts Mobile
Of these, the big title is, of course, Dragon Quest IX. The March 2009 title has yet to appear in playable for the public. Square Enix is promising a large number of kiosks for the Jump showing.
The other playable will have all seen their playable debuts previously. DQ Monsters Battle Road II was recently confirmed for early arcade release starting December 3.
The following titles are currently listed as video-only:
- Lost Winds (WiiWare)
- Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Echoes of Time (DS, Wii)
- Star Ocean 4 The Last Hope (xbox 360)
- Blood of Bahamut (DS)
- Final Fantasy XIII (PS3)
- Final Fantasy Versus XIII (PS3)
- Final Fantasy Agito XIII (PSP)
- Final Fantasy VII Advent Children Complete (Blu-Ray)
- The 3rd Birthday (PSP)
- Final Fantasy IV The After (Mobile)
- Dragon Quest Battle road Mobile (Mobile)
- Romancing Saga (Mobile)
- Crystal Defenders (iPhone 3G/iPod touch)
- Dissidia Final Fantasy (PSP)
- Chocobo and the Magic Picture Book (DS)
- Snoopy DS (DS)
- Pingu's Waku Waku Carnival (DS)
- Cid & Chocobo Mystery Dungeon (DS)
- Chrono Trigger (DS)
- The Last Remnant (Xbox 360)
Square Enix usually hosts two theater presentations, an open theater housing trailers for a variety of product both upcoming and already released, and a closed theater with the most exclusive trailers.
Outside of the game videos, Square Enix will have its usual goods, CD, and download corners.
The download corner will offer those who show up with a DS and a copy of Chocobo and the Magic Picture Book (released on December 11) a chance at downloading special Chocobo data.
The page's goods section does not offer a full list of goods at the moment, but interested parties may be able to get an early glimpse at a few products.
The booth's CD shop will offer soundtracks from Last Remannt, Final Fantasy Dragon Quest, Chrono Trigger, and more. Those who purchase a soundtrack or DVD will get an original Eco Bag and a "Sampler CD Vol.3" CD as a bonus. Those who buy a Final Fantasy XI-related item in particular will get an Altana no Kamihei Sampler CD (Altana no Kamihei is the Japanese name for the Wings of the Goddess expansion). This CD is said to have a mysterious song of some form.
Those who browse the Square Enix Jump Festa site at present will note a few grayed-out areas in the navigation area. These are for "Booth Map," "Christmas Cards," "Photo Report," and "Mobile Site." The Christmas Cards section is presumably for this year's collection of special cards Square Enix hands out to those who wait in line for the closed theater presentation.
This year's Jump Festa will be held on the 20th and 21st at the Makuhari Messe just outside Tokyo. Admission is free.
