PlayStation Home open beta to start tomorrow

Virtual world service at last open to all.

 

Sony announced today a final start date of December 11 for the open beta version of PlayStation Home. PlayStation 3 owners worldwide will have access to the open beta simultaneously.

Once downloaded, users will be able to jump into the service by selecting the PlayStation Home icon from the PlayStation Network section of the PS3's XMB menu.

Joining the Japanese version of the service will be special lounge areas for Siren and Minna no Golf. Such lounge areas have themes to match their game and serve as a gathering point for fans.

Users in Japan will also have access to Namco Museum Beta, a beta trial edition of classic Namco arcade titles. This area of the service has been available for closed beta testers since July.

Upcoming plans include virtual events for Christmas and New Years.

While the main Home download and basic services will be free, Sony will also begin tomorrow paid services. Users will be able to purcahse items for the their avatars, Personal Spaces and Clubhouses. Those wanting to create their own Clubhouses will also have to make a purchase.
