Way of the Samurai 3 set for Xbox 360
Spike's New Years Day surprise confirms port for February.
Spike delivered a big New Years Day surprise today for Xbox 360 owners with the announcement of Way of the Samurai 3 (Samuraidou 3) for the system. This is the announcement that the company had been teasing via a countdown site launched on the 25th.
The announcement was made as part of a video message from Way of the Samurai 3 producers Kazuhiro Watanabe and Yoshinori Terasawa that was posted at the teaser site. Following a short New Years greeting, the two reminded fans about a recent Way of the Samurai campaign which offers players who create a commercial for the series a chance at a prize of 500,000 yen. According to the two, the campaign has only seen five submissions as of the one month mark on December 18. To spur additional submissions, they shared new footage that campaign participants will be able to use in their creations. This footage included clips from the 360 version of the game, as indicated by the system's button symbols in the menu shots.
The Xbox 360 version will be released on February 26 at a price of 7,700 yen. While specifics haven't been fully detailed, the two producers said that the 360 version will have "plus alpha" contents over the PS3 original.
Spike will hold a demo event on January 31, offering gamers a chance to try out the 360 version of Way of the Samurai 3 along with other Spike games in advance of their release. Advance registration will be required for the event. Interested parties will be able to put their names down at the Spike official site starting January 9.
