Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G tops 3 million shipped

New software milestone for PlayStation Portable

The PSP reached a new software milestone today as Capcom announced that domestic shipments of Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G have topped the three million mark. The title becomes the first PSP game to ship three million units.

The shipment figure includes both the original 2nd G release and a PSP the Best budget release. Capcom did not share the exact split between the two versions, but did say that the budget version has topped 500,000 in shipments.

That version still sells enough units to regularly place in the top 10 weekly sales charts from Media Create. Recent figures from Media Create have the title at the 400,000 sold mark.

According to Capcom, as of December 31, 2008, total sales for the Monster Hunter series stood at 8.5 million units. The series will celebrate its fifth anniversary on March 11.
