Bandai Namco formally unveils DSi Ware titles
Four games on the way, including Katamari Damacy and Mr. Driller.
Following a report in last week's Famitsu and a partial unveiling via Nintendo on Friday, Bandai Namco formally unveiled its DSiWare lineup today. The company has four titles on the way for the download service.
Things kick off on February 25 with an 800 DSi Point version of Mr. Driller. Fully titled Sakutto Hamareru Hori Hori Action Mister Driller, this entry in the classic series promises to offer a variety of stages to meet the player's specific needs as far as level and play time are concerned. Modes of play include a 17-stage mission mode and a time attack mode, along with Drill Stone Mode, where the key to strategy lies in drill stones that have special powers.
Also set for the 25th is a 200 DSi Point title themed around Mojipittan. Fully titled Nagameru Dake de Kashikoku Nareru! Mojipittan Shiritori Tokei (Become Smart Just By Looking! Mojipittan Shiritori Clock), this title is actually a digital clock app that features a clock which can be switched between digital and analogue modes. The "Mojipittan" part of the title comes from the built in 130,000 word dictionary. This is used to flash words across the screen, allowing players to, as the title says, learn new words just by looking at the screen. The title also includes a quiz game where you're shown a definition and asked to guess the word.
A bit further down the road is Korogashi Puzzle Katamari Damacy. Set for March 25 release at 500 DSi Points, this version of Katarami Damacy is a falling blocks puzzler. Players attempt to stack up groups of falling blocks to form straight lines, which then disappear. Included in the falling block sets are item pieces and special "katamari" pieces. Once they hit the ground, the katamari pieces begin rolling around, picking up all the item pieces strewn about between blocks, and disappearing only when they've run out of places to run. The blocks then fall down to fill up the newly emptied space. The game includes an endless mode, featuring multiple difficulties, and a challenge mode, offering a variety of goals.
In addition to keeping with the theme of a ball rolling about picking things up, Katamari Damacy will also feature music from a major artist. Virtual artist Hatsune Miku will be performing the game's voiced ending theme song, "Ai no Katamari" (literally, "Clump of Love").
Outside of these three, Bandai Namco also announced one additional DSi Ware title today. Diet Memo is due for release at an undisclosed date. Details on the nature of the game were not shared.
