Yakuza 3 sells 300,000 -- Producer
Title was selling at double the pace of PS2 predecessor, says producer in blog post.
Ryu ga Gotoku 3 pulled at least 300,000 sales in its first week, according to a blog post by producer Toshihiro Nagoshi. The title was released on the 26th.
The fourth entry in the series that's known in the west as Yakuza, Gotoku 3 offers a first modern day setting for the series since PlayStation 2's Gotoku 2. As they trace a story involving the hero and heroine duo of Kazuma Kiryu and Haruka, players find themselves traveling between Tokyo and a new Okinawa setting.
Nagoshi hinted at strong sales for the game in a posting made the day after the Thursday release in which he described the sales pace as twice that of Gotoku 2. In the latest posting, dated the 1st, he mentioned little aside from the 300,000 figure, promising details to follow over the week.
More formal sales figures for the game from Media Create usually arrive towards the middle of the week.
