Microsoft kicks off domestic Xbox Live Ad program

Dashboard ads coming for Goemon and The Spirit.


Microsoft announced today the start of a pilot advertising program which will see ads offered to domestic Xbox 360 users through a variety of multimedia formats.

Named Xbox Live Ad, this program will kick off tomorrow (May 1) through promotions for Goemon and The Spirit, two movies set to be distributed domestically by Warner Entertainment Japan. From May 1 through May 28, both films will be promoted on the Xbox 360 Dashboard via free themes, icons, and HD videos.

The focus of the ad model is on mixing the visual effect of television commercials with the interactivity of internet advertising. Videos are encoded in HD at 15Mbps and are viewed full screen.

This service is being offered through Microsoft Advertising, an online advertising brand from Microsoft.
