From Makes Big Fuss About PSP Ports

Ports of Armored Core, Tenchu and more on the way.

You might have heard by now that From Software has decided to throw its weight behind the PSP through a bunch of ports of old PS2 games.

But in case you haven't heard, here's the plan. The PSP will see ports of PS2 "classics" (that's in quotes because some of these may not be classics) according to the following schedule:

  • Amored Core 3 Portable: July 30
  • Tenchu Wrath of Heaven Portable: August
  • Armored Core Silent Line Portable: November
  • Fu-un Shinsengumi Bakumatsuden Portable: December
  • Tenchu Fatal Shadows Portable: January 2010
  • Armored Core Last Raven Portable: March 2010

Of these, Armored Core 3 was previously announced and even has its own official site. For a closer look, click here for screenshots.

It turns out that these games fall under a series of games which From refers to as the "Portable Series." The company has even given the series its own portal site.

Does the ribbon in front of the posters remind you of something? Yes, this does appear to be the subject of From's teaser page from last week.

Outside of Armored Core 3, From has only started to talk about Tenchu: Wrath of Heaven Portable, which is properly known here in Japan as Tenchu 3 Portable. The PSP version of the game will add new maps and characters, new skills and actions, new systems to make the game more user friendly, and full 16x9 support.

Famitsu shares a few specifics in this issue. You'll now be able to make Rikimaru and crew perform a "kabenomi" move, which makes them blend into walls for hiding from enemies. You can also drag the bodies of dead enemies in order to hide them so that they won't get spotted and cause your discovery. In addition to these, you'll have access to new ninja tools.

The magazine also confirms new story elements, which come in the form of an original story that was included in Xbox's Tenchu 3: Kaiki no Shou. This addition brings with it two new maps offering new missions for Rikimaru, Ayame, and Tessyuu.

From gave Tenchu 3 Portable its own official site today It has a streaming promotional movie, so Tenchu fans should definitely check it out.

Tenchu and Armored Core are both listed at 3,990 yen. The latest Famitsu confirms that this will be the price point for all titles in the series.

All games in the series will, like Tenchu, be updated with new features, the official site confirms.
