Final Fantasy XIV Teaser Site Opens
FFXI followup due for simultaneous worldwide release some time next year.
Easily the most unexpected announcement from today's PlayStation E3 press conference was Final Fantasy XIV. Following the debut of a new Final Fantasy XIII trailer, Sony's Jack Tretton announced the new numbered entry as a PlayStation 3 console exclusive.
Later, Square Enix issued formal word about the game, adding that FFXIV is coming to the PC as well. This is to be expected, as it is the next massively multiplayer online entry in the series to follow (or possibly replace) Final Fantasy XI.
Nothing official has been announced about the content of the game aside from a setting in a new world, "Eorzea." For other hints, you'll have to check out the game's E3 trailer.
Thankfully, Square Enix made that trailer very accessible today with the opening of an early FFXIV official site. Set to a stirring background theme, the extremely wide site offers screenshots, a staff list and a trailer in HD.
Staff listed at the site includes Hiromichi Tanaka as producer, Nobuaki Komoto as director, Akihiko Yoshida (FFXII, Vagrant Story) as art director, and Nobuao Uematsu for music.
FFXIV hits PS3 and Windows in 2010. Square Enix has confirmed a simultaneous start of service in Japanese, English, German, and French.
Pricing, play charges and PC version specs will be announced in a future update.
