Sega Plans Card-based Gaming Push
Company plans seven new mini arcade units for this year.
Would you believe that card driven mini upright arcade units like Mushi King and Oshare Majo are part of a 40 billion yen business?
FujiSankei Business i reports this today in an article about how Sega plans on taking back the mini industry it created.
According to the article, Sega is being faced with tough competition from rival publishers. Its solution involves the release of at least seven new card games this fiscal year.
The first will be Ehon no Tamago (Picture Book Egg), which targets pre elementary school children. This will be available in early July.
The article does not list further titles, but does indicate that Sega plans on offering a variety of machines to suit varying child interest.
According to Business i, Sega has shipped 448 million Mushi King cards thus far. In 2007, 30,000 mini arcade units were set up throughout the nation.
