WiiWare Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Titles Official
Three games on the way in August. Read on for full details.
Pokemon Co. finally confirmed today a trio of downloadable WiiWare Pokemon titles. New entries in the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon series, these were first revealed in a pamphlet placed in McDonalds restaurants last month in the buildup to Nintendo's Mac de DS service.
As previously detailed, Pokemon Co. will release three WiiWare Mystery Dungeon games simultaneously: Susume! Honou no Boukendan, Ikuzo! Arashi no Boukendan, and Mezase! Hikari no Boukendan. These translate to, respectively, Advance! Flame Adventure Group, Go! Storm Adventure Group, and Aim For It! Light Adventure Group.
These serve as the latest entries in the Mystery Dungeon series of Pokemon titles. The series has previously appeared on the DS.
The basics remain the same as in past titles. Taking control of a group of Pokemon, you attempt to work through dungeons, making use of tools that you find along the way and skills that you earn through level ups. The dungeons are randomly generated, with different floor layouts, items, and enemy Pokemon each time you enter.
As with the DS versions, you can receive help requests over the internet, and head out to help your friends.
Those who are really accustomed to the DS versions can even use the DS as a controller! This allows you to select attacks using the touch screen.
The added power of the Wii promises some big changes for the series. The games makes use of full 3D, both for the dungeon environments and Pokemon. This is the first time the series has used 3D. Pokemon Co. promises visuals like that of a picture book.
Gameplay updates include a Pokemon Tower feature, where Pokemon mount one-another, allowing for multiple Pokemon to move and use their skills in a single turn. Pokemon now evolve as you work through the dungeons.
It should be noted that both of these new features apply to friends and foes alike. You can expect to see multiple Pokemon Towers face off!
WiiConnect24 is also being put to use. Those with the feature turned on will have special missions sent to them. Pokemon Co. will also be sending out special pieces of information which can be used to search for Pokemon.
So what are the differences between the three versions? Each version offers a different base of operations and starting Pokemon. Flame places you in Pokemon Village, a village themed in the image of fire, and initially gives you access to mostly flame Pokemon. Storm places you in the water-themed Pokemon Beach, with an initial lineup of mainly water Pokemon. Light starts you off in Pokemon Garden, which is surrounded by a soft light, and starts you off with electric Pokemon.
There's some connectivity between the three games. Pokemon and items that you've acquired in one game can be carried over to the other games by using the same save data. This allows you to use Pokemon that would otherwise not appear in the different versions.
All three versions will arrive simultaneously on August 4, priced at 1,200 WiiPoints each.
