Sales stats for downloaded games are hard to come by, but occasionally a publisher or developer will let slip some solid numbers for a game that matters. In this case, Namco Bandai's Keita Takahashi suddenly opened up with a sales figure for his wackiest creation since Katamari Damacy, Noby Noby Boy.

In an interview with Impress Watch, Takahashi revealed that Noby Noby Boy has sold about 100,000 units so far.

Elsewhere in the interview, Takahashi discussed some of the development background of the game, including the transition from Katamari Damacy to Noby Noby. Within Namco Bandai, he was asked to make a sequel to Katamari. He originally didn't want to, but took part in the project after considering that the sequel would be made anyway with or without him and that not taking part would be like stabbing the players of the original in the back.

Once We Love Katamari was finished, he asked Namco Bandai higher ups if he could get to work on Noby Noby Boy. He'd actually had the game in his mind from the start of the We Love Katamari project.

He stresses, however, that it wasn't just his own idea. The idea developed as he spoke with his staff. He acted to put everything together.

Takahashi says that he's currently hard at work on the previously announced iPhone version of Noby Noby Boy.
