This is How You Advertise 3D Dot Game Heroes
Now where are our darn videos, From!
Videos of 3D Dot Game Heroes could be coming soon. This isn't confirmed or anything -- just an assumption I'm making.
The way I see it, From has already provided two screenshot updates for the game, coinciding with two Famitsu blowouts. It's already shared a final release date. There's some boxart floating around (although I'm not sure if it's official). There's even a print ad (see below).
So how can a video not be shown within the next couple of weeks! Unless, From realizes the kind of word-of-mouth the game has going and will make us wait until TGS (on the 24th) for our first look.
As for that print ad, here it is:
The large text says "Rise, heroes! Change your dots into 3D and rise, heroes!"
To the right, the text reads "For those adults who've forgotten games. The time has come to newly experience the legend of that time in 3D! Restore your sense of adventure from that time!"
This ad was in this week's Famitsu, which also provided an update on the game. Here are the details.
You might have noticed a red-haried character in the media update on the 27th. That character is actually a second main character. The first main character was a "Hero." This second one is a "Prince."
That update also offered a look at additional weapons. Outside of his sword, the main character has access to at least three weapons: a boomerang, a bomb, and a bow and arrow. These can be used not just for combat, but also for puzzle solving. They do what you'd expect. The bomb can be used both to attack enemies and to destroy walls. The boomerang freezes enemies momentarily and can target multiple enemies in one go.
Your sword seems to be your main choice during combat, though. The size of your sword is tied in with the amount of life you have left. You start off with a small sword. Killing enemies releases apples which you can eat to build your life up. As your life grows, your sword does too, and when you reach max life, the sword becomes "fat, long, and hard." Those are seriously the words Famitsu uses to describe it.
The sword actually gets even bigger than in the above shot.
Unfortunately, Famitsu doesn't have any details on why, as was revealed last week, Irem's Spelunker will be featured in promotions for 3D Dot Game Heroes. We'll hopefully find out the specifics behind that collaboration soon. And we'll hopefully see some videos soon as well!
