Square Enix Teams with Disney for Japanese Game Sales

RPG giant to distribute Disney titles in Japan.

The new Stitch game.

Square Enix continues to form partnerships with overseas publishing bodies. After acquiring Eidos and forming a distribution deal with Ubisoft, the RPG giant's next partner will be an old friend: Disney. Or, specifically, Disney Interactive Studio.

The two firms have entered into a contract which will see Square Enix distribute Disney Interactive Studio product in Japan. This deal applies to consumer game software for all non-Microsoft platforms.

The first title to benefit from Square Enix's retail muscle willl be Stitch! DS Ohana to Rhythm de Daibouken, a new DS title featuring the popular Stitch character. The game is set for December 3 release, priced at ¥5,040.

This deal appears to be similar to the deal Square Enix has with Ubisoft, with Disney Interactive Studio continuing to act as publisher. This is different from games like Quantum of Solace and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, which were acquired by Square Enix for Japanese release.
