Huge Start for Uncharted 2
Sequel sells six times original, tops homegrown newcomers.
Uncharted 2 saw release here yesterday. As evening approached, reports began surfacing at retail blogs of sellouts for the game. It looks like those reports were accurate.
The Sinobi retailer blog, usual source for early sales info, reports first day sales of 47,000 units for the game. Not only is this impressive for a foreign game, but it's also impressive compared to the original Uncharted, which sold just 7,300 in its first day back in December 2007.
Regarding the franchise's popularity, the blog notes that the original remained a long seller even after dropping off the sales charts, and saw a boost in sales from its budget version. Sony has given Uncharted 2 a reasonable promotional push here, recently holding a demo event in Akihabara. The company tapped rapper (and known gamer) Bose for commercials and other promotional activities.
Pokemon and Wii Fit will likely stay at the top of the charts for this week, which will be reported next week through Media Create. But Uncharted 2 could top this week's new comers. The Wii version of Okami sold 19,000 in its first day. Other new releases like Undead Knights (PSP), Steins; Gate (Xbox 360) and Beatmania IIDX16 (PS2) managed to just cross the 10,000 mark.
