Bayonetta Update

The latest weapons, transformations and support characters that help out gaming's new diva.

Bayonetta hits tomorrow. Let's forget the risque secret costumes. Let's forget the giant billboards atop 109. Let's try and forget that the Bayonetta character may actually be a 2.5 meter giant. Here's a look at the latest Bayonetta enemies, weapons, and support characters.

First up, the characters. Previously, we got a look at Jeanne, who appears to be a rival with Bayonetta. PS3 owners can combat her in the demo that's now available for download. The two definitely aren't on good terms.

For this latest look at the game, let's meet some characters that Bayonetta won't have to introduce to her array of torture attacks.

RODIN

Rodin runs The Gates of Hell, a bar in the slums. When he's not serving drinks, he's assembling weapons for Bayonetta, although the exact reason for his show of support is unclear. Says Rodin: "Your fights are yours alone. I'm only here to watch my handiwork in action."

ENZO

Enzo profits by making use of his vast network of information sources. The information he provides Bayonetta will help her unravel the mysteries of her past. Says Enzo, "At least let me get a drink at Rodin's before you start drilling me."

LUKA

Luka is a freelance journalist who follows Bayonetta around. He's not just a mild mannered reporter, though, as he can make use of a grapple hook that's attached to his sleeve to leap into the heart of the action. Says Luka, "I'm not your pet. The name is Luka. A name you better remember!"

CEREZA

A mysterious girl who does not appear to be from the area. How she got into the heavily patrolled town is a mystery. She meets Bayonetta under as yet unrevealed circumstances and ends up calling her "Mummy." Says Cereza, "Mummy is a witch, and witches protect people and are very strong."

The enemies appear to far outnumber the friends in Bayonetta, though. Here's a look at the latest "angels" who are just asking Bayonetta to let her hair down.

SAPIENTIA

To deal with these and other foes, Bayonetta has access to a vast array of attacks and weapons. In our last update, we got a look at Colonel Kilgore. The latest update introduces us to the likes of Sergey's Lover, Moon of Mahakala, Odette, and Durga.

The PS3 and Xbox 360 demo allowed players to sample a beast summon via the giant Gomorrah, who storms in to finish off Bayonetta's foes. This is just one example of the game's summons. Here's a look at the even uglier Phantasmaraneae, a demon that lives deep in hell in a sea of magma.

Bayonetta can also "become" a weapon herself, transforming into such forms as Beast Within (a tiger), Bat Within, and Crow Within. Bayonetta's sex appeal does take somewhat of a hit when she's in beast form.

It's pretty clear that the Bayonetta demo, as packed as it was with content, only provided a glimpse at the final product. Set some time aside for Thursday's release.
