Programmer Lists Readable Text Among End of Eternity Sales Points
Some points about Sega and tri-Ace's new RPG that you won't see in a magazine.
As you might have guessed from my very positive Tokyo Game Show impressions, End of Eternity has quite a bit going for it. Add "readable text" to the list, as this is one point that the game's chief programmers highlighted in a recent post at the game's official blog.
In a post titled "Sales Points Not Mentioned in a Magazine, a Mr. Kitao, who heads up the game's programming side, mentions the following points about the game:
[li]The game's font size has been adjusted so that it can be read on an SD television.[/li]
[li]The game's orchestral music was all recorded in 5.1 in a concert hall. All the game's BGM are in 5.1. Kitao also notes that the game's battle music, performed by a band, becomes more intense based off the situation (I mentioned this in my hands-on -- it really adds a lot to the battle experience).[/li]
[li]The game supports optional HDD install for both the PS3 and Xbox 360. However, it's optimized to be played smoothly without install.[/li]
[li]No need to swap discs, as the game uses just one disc. This was apparently one of the goals, as the developers wanted to avoid a situation where players come to the end of a disc and try to speculate on how far they've progressed in the game. The game only needs one disc because for the most part its cut scenes do not use pre-rendered movies. The reason for this is that the characters can change their clothes.[/li]
[li]Battles have a retry feature. There are a number of times when a simple mistake leads to a game over. In EoE, you can select to retry the battle. This can be done from both the gameover screen and the pause menu.[/li]
[li]You can save your state in battle and on the world map. Just in case you have a life outside of games and need to stop play and pick up exactly where you left off the following day.[/li]

Closing off, Kitao added a couple of points of interest. Once you've cleared the game, you'll be able to restart with all your items in place.
He also added that development on the game's overseas version is progressing smoothly. Here's a look at the overseas version title screen.
