Wondering what a fighter that prides itself on HD 2D visuals looks like shrunk down to the PSP? Then have a look at BlazBlue Portable:

Following its print counterpart, Famtisu.com scored first screens of the game today. Go to the site for a bunch of additional shots.

Although the graphics have taken a hit, publisher Arc System Works describes BlazBlue Portable as being greatly powered up over its Xbox 360 and PS3 counterparts. The story mode and other features from those versions remain intact, joined by a new Legion Mode and powerful "Unlimited" forms for 12 characters.

Legion Mode has players face off against an enemy "army" in one-on-one fights. Wipe out an entire army, and you can add one of the opponent characters to your own army, which can grow to 20 members. Your goal is to scout enemies and build up a powerful army, eventually facing off against Unlimited characters who appear as bosses.

Expectedly, the PSP version will have an ad-hoc mode for competitive fights. Multiplayer actually supports four players, with two waiting on the sideline and watching the current match.

There's no actual online play, but Arc has confirmed Ad-Hoc Party support, so those with a PS3 will be able to challenge distant rivals.

BlazBlue Portable hits on February 25 at ¥5,040. A download version will be offered simultaneously for ¥4,500.
