Gundam Tree Goes Up in Akihabara

Complete with plastic model ornaments!

If you thought it would be tough to follow up on that 1 to 1 scale recreation of a Mobile Suit that appeared in Odaiba over the summer... you were right. Namco Bandai is never going to be able to top that, short of sending up a real Mobile Suit into space.

But this Christmas will see a slightly less high profile Gundam promotion. Namco Bandai announced yesterday plans for a "Gundam Tree," to go up in Akihabara's UDX Building starting December 3.

The Gundam Tree is like a Christmas tree, but with Gundam Plastic Models for the ornaments. The five meter tall "tree," colored red, blue and white (the colors of Gundam), will feature over 60 models.

This is just an image. But you already knew that, didn't you?

Namco Bandai is erecting the tree in commemoration of Gundam VS Gundam Next Plus, the arcade to PSP Gundam port that hits on December 3. The tree will be lit up at a lighting ceremony on the 3rd. Amuro Ray voice actor Toru Furuya will be on hand to take pictures with guests.

Those hoping to attend the lighting ceremony should bring their copy of Gundam VS Gundam Next Plus to UDX Building on the 3rd. The first one hundred will be let in on the festivities.
