Dragon Quest VI Features Surechigai Wi-Fi
Share your dreams with other players.
Square Enix is packing its DS remake of Dragon Quest IV with new features, among them Surechigai Wi-Fi.
Surechigai (I'm not sure of a general official English language name for this) allows DS owners to exchange data even when their system is closed. The exchange happens automatically in the background when you pass by other players on the street. In Dragon Quest IX, this system was used to have other characters visit your copy of the game, complete with treasure maps in tow.
DQVI's implementation, revealed in this week's Weekly Shounen Jump, lets players exchange their "Dreams for the Future."
To use the feature, you'll have to first visit a place in the world known as the "Surechigai Hall." Here, you can set up a character with a profile specified in seven areas: form, birth place, gender, title, method of speech, message, and "dream stage." This character will visit others via Surechigai and speak of your dreams.
For your "form," it looks like you can select from a variety of preset character types. Screens in the magazine suggest at least 70 types. You'll even be able to select monsters!
You can select 32 types of speech, which your character will presumably use to recite your dream. Samples include "Energetic boy," "Cute girl," "Sexy lady," "Manly man," "Serious man," "Quiet girl," and so-forth.
The "dream stage" is the location of your dream. You can select from 64 location types, including caves and cities of various types.
Successfully exchange data with another player, and that players dream for the future will be stored with your copy of the game and can be freely viewed whenever you like. It also seems as though there will be some sort of comment feature, allowing players to comment on your dream.
DQIX's Surechigai system appears to be quite popular, with some shops having set up special areas just for players to exchange data. We'll see if DQVI gets players connected in similar fashion when the game hits on January 28.
