Jump's Last Final Fantasy XIII Article
FFXIII's six roles and Cocoon's kanji name.
Weekly Shounen Jump has provided pretty much every Final Fantasy XIII gameplay and character scoop since the game's announcement at E3 a few years back. So this week's article, presumably the last time the game will appear in the magazine before release, deserves special mention.
Although, it looks like the've run out of things to write about. The article is mostly about FFXIII's six roles -- something we've already heard plenty about.
In case you haven't been keeping up, here are the roles along with translations of the little descriptions Jump provides:
- Attacker: For Physical Attacks
- Blaster: For Magic Attacks
- Defender: Strengthens Your Defense
- Healer: Good With Healing
- Jammer: Makes Enemies Weak
- Enhancer: Strengthen Allies
I didn't notice this before, but there's a nice symmetry between these roles. The Jump story places them in a circle, going clockwise as Attacker, Defender, Healer, Blaster, Enhancer, and Jammer. Attacker and Blaster appear to have complementary roles, as one is for magic and the other for physical attacks. Defender protects you from attack while Jammer makes it easier to stop those attacks. Healer recovers your HP while Enhancer strengthens your characters in other areas.
There's one other bit in the Jump article that I think may be new. The kanji for Pulse was already known to be "下界," or literally the world below. Cocoon's kanji, as shown in Jump this week, is "理想郷." I believe this can literally be "Ideal Town," although I'm not totally sure about the "town" part.
[As reader "eddyj" pointed out, "理想郷" is just the Japanese for utopia.]
