Final Fantasy XIII Hits Home

FFXIII-themed items and a free Personal Space in time for Christmas!

This is just a generic Home image. Media of the FFXIII items will likely hit tomorrow.

PlayStation Home reached its one year anniversary earlier this month (on the 11th, to be exact). Sony is celebrating with possibly the biggest tie-up yet for the service.

As detailed in this week's Famitsu, Square Enix and Sony will be teaming up shortly for Final Fantasy XIII-themed contents for the virtual world. The content will include items and a special Personal Space.

Over 10 items will be on offer. These include Lightning, Snow, and Sazh avatar costumes, as well as room items that include enemy models (including Sabotender and his girlfriend) and weapons. The magazine did not share pricing info.

The special Personal Space offers a recreation of a scene from the main FFXIII game. Look outside your window, and you'll see a recreation of the FFXIII world. Combine this with the Lightning, Snow, and Sazh avatar items, and you may think you're playing an online FFXIII!

Sony and Square Enix will be giving away the Personal Space for free through January 14. In an interview with Famitsu, Home developer Kando Masami explained the pricing by saying that Sony wanted to give PS Home users a big Christmas gift. He also joked that if players have their own room, they'll likely buy items.

The Famitsu article doesn't clearly state when the initial batch of FFXIII goods will be available. However, the date of available for most items appears to be the 17th, opposite FFXIII's release. Sazh's avatar clothing and the weapon-themed items will be available starting January 7.

These FFXIII items look like they could be the start of a big push for Home. Famitsu also details a Christmas event which will see publishers place Christmas-themed objects in Home Square. Namco Bandai's Tales of Vesperia will be among the franchises involved in this event.

Closing off his interview with the magazine, Masami suggested that some "dramatic changes" in functionality could be coming to the service in the future. He suggested that players look forward to future Home developments.
