Resident Evil 5 AE Detailed by Assistant Producer Mie Suzuki

How Desperate Escape came to be, and Capcom's plans for additional missions.

We got first details on Resident Evil 5 Alternative Edition's second new scenario a couple of weeks back. The latest Dengeki PlayStation has an interview in which assistant producer Mie Suzuki shares new details on the scenario and the rest of Alternative Edition.

As previously detailed, AE's second scenario is "Desperate Escape." Like the new "Lost in Nightmares" scenario, it features Jill Valentine, but this time she's paired with BSAA Africa's Josh Stone rather than Chris Redfield.

Desperate Escape is set after Jill's comatose is cleared and Chris and Sheva head off in hot pursuit of Wesker. Jill meets up with Josh, who came to rescue her, and the two attempt to escape from a Tricell facility.

According to Suzuki, both the Desperate Escape and Lost in Nightmares scenarios were part of Resident Evil 5 from the start of development, but were left out due to balance considerations. For Alternative Edition, the staff thought that in order to allow players to more deeply enjoy RE5, they should fill in the blank spaces.

At present, there aren't any plans for additional scenarios beyond these two to be made available in download from, Suzuki told the magazine.

Players can expect between 1 to 2 hours of play time for each scenario, Suzuki said, echoing past comments from other members of the AE staff. She added that there are also some devices in place that players can play over and over again. She did not provide specifics.

Suzuki also briefly touched upon the updated "Mercenaries Reunion" mode. Asked what kind of changes this mode will see, she reiterated that 8 new player characters will join the fight.

Currently, we know of five of the characters: Office Lady Sheva, Warrior Chris, Exoskelton Chris, Folklore Sheva, and Josh.
