This is what a Ukelele Pichu looks like
Nintendo shares a first look at the new Pokemon Ranger game.
When I read that the new Pokemon Ranger has a Ukelele Pichu, I imagined a Pichu shaped like a Ukelele. But, it turns out that the Ukelele Pichu is just a standard Pichu holding a ukelele:
The Ukelele Pichu lives on Drop Island, an island in the Oblivia region that serves as the setting for Pokemon Ranger Path of Light. Some undisclosed happening leads you to travel alongside Ukelele Pichu, whose ukelele plays when electricity passes through it.
Nintendo shared today screens and artwork for Path of Light, allowing us to see some of what was revealed in Coro Coro earlier in the week.
As previously detailed, Path of Light retains the basics of the last two Pokemon Ranger games. You plays as a Pokemon Ranger who must protect nature by teaming up with various Pokemon.
You begin the game by selecting to be either a male or female ranger. The character you don't select becomes your partner character.
Pokemon that you encounter in the wild can be captured by shooting a Capture Disc at them from your Capture Styler and drawing a circular path around the Pokemon for the Capture Disc to follow. Once you've captured a Pokemon, it becomes your ally for a while and lends you its powers.
Your Capture Styler will eventually be updated with a new piece of functionality for Path of Light, the "Ranger Sign." Ranger Signs let you call out past Pokemon by drawing special paths for the Capture Disc.
Nintendo shared today the signs for Eevee and Croagunk and screens showing some of the special powers you'll gain with the help of your summoned Pokemon friends.
Other screens show a Pokemon capture mini game where you hold the DS in book mode, the game's four player cooperative mission system, and the first Wi-Fi download mission, which gives you access to Deoxys.
That Deoxys mission will be available for a limited time from launch day. As previously announced, you'll be able to carry Deoxys to your other Pokemon games. There are actually four forms of Deoxys: Attack Form, Speed Form, Normal Form and Defense Form. Each can learn different skills. The form you get will differ according to how you clear the mission.
Look for Pokemon Ranger on March 6, a Saturday. On January 29, Nintendo will begin pre-orders for the game and also make available a downloadable demo through Nintendo Zone and DS Station. Wii's Nintendo Channel does not seem to be included in the demo offer.
