The wait is at long last over for KOF Sky Stage. SNK Playmore announced today that the arcade shooter will be available tomorrow (1/22).

KOF Sky Stage puts characters from the King of Fighters fighting game series in an overhead vertical "bullet hell" shooter. Gameplay includes the "Chouhatsu" system, which rewards risky play with high points, and a three-tiered special move system, with moves pulled straight out of the KOF series.

Players can select from six SNK fighters: Mai Shiranui, Iori Yagami, Kyo Kusanagi, Kula Diamond, Terry Bogard and Athena Asamiya. Each character has a unique story, but all stories are centered around preventing the revival of the Orochi clan.

Stages feature branching paths that lead to one of two bosses. In single player mode, you work through the stages on your own, but the game also has a cooperative two player mode where the event scenes differ based off the character pairing. Owing further to the series' fighting roots, the game also includes a round-based competitive play mode.

KOF Sky Stage was also announced for release on Xbox 360. Now that the arcade version is out of the way, we may at last start hearing about the home conversion.
