Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Set for Japan Too

It really is.

Sega's 2D Sonic revival may have been announced via the US media, but it won't be limited to just the West. Following yesterday's overseas announcement of Sonic 4, Sega Japan briefed the local media on the game today.

Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode 1 will be released to Japan on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii this summer. As with the rest of the world, it will be a download game. Pricing is TBA.

The final Japanese name for the game has not been set. In Japan, the "Sonic the Hedgehog" part of the name usually stays as is, so Sega is presumably deciding what to do about the "Episode" part of the name.

Coinciding with the announcement, Sega opened a Japanese teaser official site for the game.

In its announcement today, Sega noted that this is the first new entry in the classic 2D side scrolling Sonic series in 16 years.
