It's like Christmas (or maybe Valentines) for Love Plus fans!
Sequels, campaigns and more for those who love to love digital girls.
Love Plus is in the headlines in a big way as Valentines Day approaches. In addition to formal announcement of a sequel, Konami shared details today on some new tie-ups and campaigns for the DS love sim.
The sequel, word of which first surfaced through a leaked Famitsu cover last week, is confirmed at a new campaign site.
The campaign site asks players to submit a form with their first and last names and a nickname. Similar to the first game, it seems that the girls in the Love Plus followup will call out the name of the player directly. By submitting your information at the campaign site, you can ensure that your name will be properly pronounced by the girls in the sequel.
Konami will be accepting names from today through the 28th. Final names will be selected via drawings. The campaign site does not specify how many names will actually make the cut.
Those hoping for some preliminary details on the followup should check this week's Famitsu, which has an interview with series producer Akari Uchida. The magazine's cover refers to the game as "Love Plus +," although this appears to be just a code name.
Love Plus will be appearing in games outside of the followup. Starting today, Konami's The Bishi Bashi arcade game will offer a Love Plus mini game. In the mini game, players have to lead the Love Plus girls across a stream by slamming on the cabinet's colored buttons.
Joining the name campaign and arcade tie-up, Konami shared details today on a campaign that anyone can take part in -- even those who haven't been on a virtual date with one of the Love Plus girls.
Love Plus will be teaming up with Pocky in celebration of Valentines Day. Buy a pack of Pocky between today and March 13, enter the code that's on the package into a special campaign site, and you'll be able to download some limited edition Valentines Day and Love Plus augmented reality cards.
Each Love Plus heroine has a unique card which can be obtained by buying a specific type of Pocky. Buy Chocolate Pocky for Manaka Takane, extra fine ("Gokuboso") Pocky for Rinko Kobayakawa, and Men's Pocky (yes, there is a "Men's Pocky," and it's apparently bitter) for Nene Anegasaki.
For more details along with download and usage instructions, see the campaign site.
Those who aren't interested in participating in the campaign will find some images at the campaign site showing what you can do with the cards and a webcam:
Newcomers to the series can act now to get some free sweets. For a limited time, buy Love Plus from select Tsutaya and WonderGoo shops, and you'll get a set consisting of a box of Pocky and three Valentines Limited augmented reality cards.
