Burning Questions Answered at Super Street Fighter IV Blog
Nakky-chan shares a few new details on Capcom's plans for the Street Fighter IV followup.
The Super Street Fighter IV official blog was updated today with an impossibly long Q&A session. Capcom, give assistant producer Natsuki "Nakky" Shiozawa a big bonus!
The best part of the post actually comes at the end, after the questions and answers are done. It seems that Capcom will be celebrating Valentines Day with a special Super SFIV trailer. Following up on the first Ryu vs Ken trailer, the next Super trailer will show Chun-Li, Juri, and Cammy. Look for it at the official site on Saturday (2/13) at 10:00 in the AM.
Now on to the questions. I've selected just a few to summarize. These are in no particular order, so you may want to avoid reading this on a full stomach.
Ready? Okay... let's beginning.
Double Dip
Someone complained about having to buy Super after having bought the PS3 version of SFIV. Shiozawa explained that Super is more than just additional elements tacked onto SFIV. There are quite a few changes at the core, so an online update would have been difficult.
Portable SFIV
Someone said that he wants a PSP version of SFIV. Shiozawa responded that she also wants it. Lots of people in Capcom want a portable version too.
Nakky Infatuation -- Part 1
It's almost Valentines Day. Will Shiozawa give out chocolates to that special someone? Hmm... this is something I too would like to see answered. Unfortunately, Shizawa would not say. But she admitted that when she was in school she received more chocolates than she gave. (Incidentally, in Japan, Valentines Day sees girls give out chocolates to guys. They also drive on the wrong side of the road and put mayonnaise on pizza.)
Nakky Infatuation -- Part 2
Of the newly revealed arranged costumes, Shiozawa says she likes the Mecha Zangief and Cammy Bison costumes, shown here:
Bonus Costumes
On the note of costumes, aside form the free bonus costumes that are given away to early buyers, Capcom will be selling the costumes in similar fashion to how they handled SFIV's costumes. They'll be bundled in packs of five and released gradually.
Keep hope alive
People are still hoping for an arcade version of Super, it seems. In response to a question about this, Shiozawa said that fan voices are being heard. They're still trying to make an arcade version a reality, and she suggested that people keep on hoping.
Life of a game developer
How did Shiozawa, Ono and the development staff spend Christmas? With family and friends? Exchanging presents? Making a turkey? Nope. The Super SFIV staff spent Christmas debugging and fine tuning their latest creation.
Sign you've been playing too much Street Fighter
Someone apparently had a dream about Super's replay channel. I'm not sure how, but this lead to a question about being able to post comments in the channels. There is no comment functionality for this area of the game, explained Shiozawa.
Hint: They're making it up as they go along
But what about Super Street Fighter IV's story an the possibilities for paradoxes with the events of Street Fighter IV? Shiozawa says that Super's story takes place at the same time as Street Fighter IV. The "incident" in Super takes place in a different location.
Death Penalty Combo
Here's a sweet pic from Viper's Burning Dance ultra combo (the fabled "Death Penalty Combo"):
Ultra Combos
In case you were wondering, the conditions for unleashing the two ultra combos for each character are the same. Shiozawa explained this in response to someone's statement that the second ultra combos look like they might be more powerful and thus require a maxed revenge gauge. (You gotta admit... the second combos do look more powerful!)
No panty shots for you!
Someone asked for a character model viewer. This will not be in the game, Shiozawa confirmed.
Sagat has hollow bones
Here's some interesting Super Street Fighter IV development trivia. Someone said that at 78kg, Sagat's weight seems to be too low. Shiozawa revealed that when making Super, they were considering redoing the profiles of the characters in order to fix such issues. However, they decided to keep the profiles as is under the consideration that the Street Fighter IV line of titles is meant to be based on Street Fighter II.
It's not an arcade game
Is there a time limit for selecting your Ultra Combos? Shiozawa says no. Same for when selecting your characters.
Download content that's actually downloaded
You know that bonus anime that Xbox 360 owners are going to be able to exclusively download from Xbox Live Marketplace? Capcom isn't pulling a fast one and including the anime on the disc. When you input the included product code, you'll actually download the full anime.
Poorly worded press releases
Also on the point of the anime, Capcom's announcement of the anime seemed to suggest that it's a Japan-only thing. That's not the case. In referring to it as "Japan-only," they meant that only in Japan will it be included as a free bonus with the first print run of the game. It's not the case that other territories will not be able to see the anime. In fact, it's possible that it will be included as a bonus in other territories as well.
Uhh... Chun-Li likes Guile, okay.
Are Ryu and Chun-Li going out? In response to this question, Shiozawa said "Absolutely not! I don't think Chun-Li would select Ryu." She did admit that she has no evidence for this. She also shared a neat pic that shows what Chun-Li thinks of Ryu:
It's only 40 bucks
Someone complained that the Street Fighter IV commercials weren't too great and asked that Capcom make better CMs this time in order to make the Street Fighter IV name rise in Japan. Shiozawa shared some sad news here. Capcom is not making commercials for Super.
Wow... more Ryu Liver
Remember how Capcom teamed up with a Chinese restaurant chain for collaborative Chinese food to help promote Street Figther IV? They're going to be doing the promotion again, complete with new collaboration items. The collaboration will start in early April.
Uhh... you know she's a villain, right?
In response to a message of support form a fan based in Korea, Shiozawa posted this sweet pic of Juri in action:
Finally, in other Super Street Fighter IV news, Capcom provided a first look today at the bonus items that will be included for e-Capcom buyers:
As previously detailed, e-Capcom buyers will get a special DVD featuring trial mode guide footage, and a move chart that's set up like a desktop calendar. See this story for details.
