New Inazuma Eleven Announced

Endo and friends challenge the world stage in soccer sequel.

Level-5 announced today a new entry in the Inazuma Eleven series. The new entry is titled Inazuma Eleven 3: Sekai e no Chousen (unofficially "World Challenge") and is set for Summer release on the DS.

Inazuma Eleven has thus far seen two installments on the DS. The first one had main character Mamoru Endo lead his team to become number one in Japan. The second one, released last year under separate "Fire" and "Blizzard" skus, had Endo face off against a team consisting of aliens.

For the third entry, Endo will be taking on the role of captain of a team called "Inazuma Japan" and will head off onto the world stage. Characters from past Inazuma Eleven games will team up with Endo for the new challenge. The team will be headed up by Michiya Kuon, a mysterious new coach.

Artwork for Inazuma Eleven 3

Inazuma Eleven 3 will have some connectivity with Inazuma Eleven 2. One example involves character crossovers. Characters you've earned in Inazuma Eleven 2 will appear in Inazuma Eleven 3. Level-5 refers to the connectivity between the two titles as "Two Three Super Link."

What other forms of connectivity await? Level-5 gave the darn thing its own name, so there's gotta be more than just character crossovers.

The Inazuma Eleven series has shipped over 1.5 million units as of January 20.
