Hideo Kojima Talks Trailers

Do you love yourself some Kojima Productions trailer work? Then set aside some time over the next couple of months. In a recent Tweet, director Hideo Kojima revealed that his team plans on creating around 10 promotional videos for Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker leading up to its April 29 release.

In the Tweet, Kojima writes that the goal for the first of these trailers is to get players to see "You can do stealth action, with no inferiority to past MGS titles." He does admit worry about the trailer getting buried amongst the trailers for HD games due to the PSP's inferior graphical capability.

Kojima shared some of his thoughts on trailer creation in Tweets immediately before this. These Tweets have been translated to English at the Hideo Kojima English Twitter, so you can read them for yourself.

It looks like there'll be no trickery going on in the next Peace Walker trailer. In one Tweet, Kojima writes of the trailer's creation that the level designer has to practice playing as, "It's going to be a one shot deal with no editing." He also says that they won't shy away from showing PW gameplay footage.

"I couldn't get in the groove and pondered what to do for our first trailer, but I can pretty much say we have the direction layed out now. The player's movement, what to show are FIXED in my head and on storyboards. Now Lets (Level Designer) has to practice, because it's going to be a one shot deal with no editing. A true in-game video...no lies."

"Unlike the PS3 and 360, the PSP does not have immense power in graphics. For this reason, it is hard to strategize a plan against next gen consoles with trailers displaying high-res gameplay footage. Most PSP trailers and commercials end up relying on CG rendering and animations. Contrary to that... we are planning to show PW gameplay."

"These last couple years, there have been a change in trailers. In the past, the game's world and story, rendered for completion was the preferred method, however lately raw footage of gameplay has been the trend. Action games in the west especially have focused on non edited trailers. Do not hide imperfections!""
