Fist of the North Star Musou Tops Half Million
Retail orders strong for PS3 and Xbox 360 pairing of Fist of the North Star and Dynasty Warriors.
It looks like the PlayStation 3 will be at the top of the software sales charts again next week. Koei announced that shipments for Fist of the North Star Musou have reached the 500,000 mark. The feat comes one day after the game's March 25 release.
Fist of the North Star Musou, known formally here as "Hokuto Musou," combines gameplay from the Dynasty Warriors series, which has shipped over 22 million units worldwide, with characters and story elements from the Fist of the North Star manga, which has shipped over 100 million copies worldwide.
Tecmo Koei stock soared 17% following the multiplatform PS3 and 360 title's announcement late last year. At the time, CEO Kenji Matsubara said that he expected sales of a million copies in Japan alone.
The half million shipment figure does not appear to be an initial shipment. Instead, Koei said that, due to high customer demand, additional retail orders for the game have been high.
The company did not provide a breakdown between Xbox 360 and PS3.
