Yakuza PSP -- Must See Trailer

More details on the game's story and gameplay systems in this six minute trailer.

The Ryu ga Gotoku (Yakuza) series is known for its gripping trailers. The tradition continues on the PSP with Black Leopard: Ryu ga Gotoku New Chapter, as you can see in a new trailer that debuted at Famitsu.com today.

The nearly six minute trailer kicks off with an introduction to the game's background story, then continues on to gameplay, showing combat, adventuring, and mini games.

Here's a rough summary of what's said:

Narrator: The city of desire [or possibly greed], Kamurocho.

Narrator: The boy had nothing.

Narrator: No money, no dreams.

Random guy: "Cut it out,"

Random guy: "What are you doing?"

Narrator: And friends too.

Narrator: Power is everything.

Narrator: That's what the boy believed.

Narrator: Tatsuya Ukyou

Narrator: However

Narrator: One mistake changes the boy's fate.

Narrator: Murder of a high ranking member of the Tojokai Kuki Family

Mysterious voice: "Last night, the crime that you committed. I was watching everything. I'll give you a chance.

Narrator: The task that was assigned to the boy who had his freedom stolen.

Narrator: The underground fighting dojo Dragon Heat.

Mysterious voice: "Understand? Fight here according to the match making."

Narrator: There was one road to freedom.

Narrator: Continue to win

Narrator: Just continue to win

Narrator: The truth that awaits at the end of continued victory

Narrator: Is it hope?

Narrator: Or is it despair?

Narrator: People call it violence.

Narrator: But is it really violence?

Narrator: And even then do you still call it violence?

Narrator: There's a fate that cannot be opened with anything but my fists.

Narrator: At the end of violence.

Narrator: What is the pride the boy took hold of?

This is followed by a brief introduction to the cast that was introduced in Famitsu leaks from yesterday.

Tatsuya Ukyou (CV: Kengo Kouchi)

Saki Kudou (CV: Haru)

Ryutaro Kuki (CV: Toshio Kurosawa)

Taizan Amemiya (CV: Koichi Iwaki)

Famitsu shared details on these character yesterday. Ukyou is, of course, the hero. Kudou is a heroine-like character (the magazine didn't specifically call her the game's heroine though). Kuki is head of the family whose high ranking member Ukyou killed. His family runs the dojo where Ukyou is placed to fight, and that dojo is operated by Amemiya.

The trailer closes off with some actual gameplay footage.

First up is combat. Outside of battles on the streets of Kamurocho, the trailer hints that you'll be able to climb the ranks in the Dragon Heat ring battle. It also says that the game will offer a variety of fighting styles, and you'll be able to fight using your very own style.

Next, the game's "adventure" component. You can get your first look at Kamurocho rendered in PSP form here. The trailer promises at least 100 sub stories and a variety of play spots. Some familiar locals are shown in the trailer here, notably the inside of Don Quixoti.

Next, the game's "play spot" component. Only one play spot is shown here -- the hostess club. But the trailer promises a large variety.

The narration ends, "A new challenge begins for Ryu ga Gotoku."

At the end of the trailer is a link to an official site. The site is not yet active, but will presumably go live later today.

It looks like the underground fighting ring is going to play a major part in this new Yakuza game -- more than the mini game nature of the fighting ring in past Yakuza games.
