Capcom made mention of a "Mega Man Online" in its recent earnings report. Yesterday, the game saw formal announcement through Korea's Neowiz Games.

According to the announcement, as summed up today at 4gamer, Mega Man Online will be a 3D side scrolling action RPG. It will retain the action feel of the series while adding the RPG elements one expects from an online title, including characters who grow in strength over time.

Mega Man and Zero have been shown in artwork released for the game. The game will also feature a variety of other characters and NPCs from past Mega Man titles.

The Mega Man series creators are overseeing the recreation of characters and backgrounds for the game, 4gamer reports.

Currently, the game has not been formally announced for release in Japan.
