New Yakuza Black Panther Trailer

A complete look at the game, with some new gameplay and story revelations.

Joining a sweet batch of screenshots, Sega shared Black Panther: Yakuza New Chapter trailer number 2 today. You can view the five minute mix of gameplay and story here:

Also be sure and view the first trailer here.

Here's some navigation for the second trailer.

The trailer begins: "The most passionate man in the history of PSP strikes!"

We're shown the opening moments of the game, as Tatsuya attempts to rob Tojo Clan member Naoki Toda but ends up killing him. Tatsuya expresses shock that his opponent died.

In the next next scene, we see Tatsuya tazed, and then propositioned by Ryutaro Kuki in the underground fighting arena Dragon Heat. Kuki tells him that he must fight and continue to win in the tournament -- "continue to fight, and surpass the legendary fighter."

After a few quick fighting sequences in the game's unique animation style (from studio Spooky Graphic, who also worked on Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker), the trailer mentions a previously undisclosed piece of background story. There was apparently an arson incident 15 years back that was covered up by some powerful people. This will presumably play a major role in the game's story.

The story sequences, set to the theme song Muppet by Rize, end with:

"As he fights, the boy comes to know, the true way of living, the true way of fighting"

"There's a fate that can only be opened with my fists."

"At the end of the violence, what is the honor that the boy obtained?"

"This heated drama will cause a revolution on the PSP."

Following another introduction to the primary cast and their voice actors (I suppose every trailer is going to have this), we get to see a few minutes of gameplay.

First, battle. Here's somewhat of a surprise. The game's "high tension" street combat battle system apparently does not make use of life gauges. How do you die? I have no idea, as the trailer doesn't clarify.

As previously detailed, the game has over 10 fighting styles. You can build up Tatsuya into the type of fighter that you want.

Next, a look at the Dragon Heat component of the game. This is an actual fighting tournament that takes place in the underground. It works into both the story and gameplay. You'll need to defeat a major opponent here at the end of each of the game's chapters.

The trailer also provides a glimpse at the team battle system that was first detailed a couple of weeks back. When you defeat an opponent, he becomes available as an ally in the ad-hoc wireless multiplayer mode. The multiplayer mode includes support for four players. Apparently, the losing team will end up being split up. Does this mean you'll lose your allies?

You can see a few more details on the game's multiplayer component here.

The trailer closes off with a look at the adventure component. In Yakuza-speak, "adventure" refers to the part of the game where you run around Kamurocho, speak to people, visit shops, and play mini games in play spots.

The trailer promises a large number of tie-ups, including Matsuya, Don Quixoti, Watami, Pronto, DressCamp, Sammy Networks, Mobagetown, Repark, Club Sega, APA Hotel, Zoo, Nesta, Ace Cook, Suntory, and -- of course -- Suntan Salon Sole.

There's a new element to the adventure component this time. As previously detailed, you can make Tatsuya take on part time jobs. He'll need to earn and save money for use in the game's play spots. Jobs shown in the trailer include a ramen shop, ice cream parlor, and "Smile Burger." These are all played like mini games.

You can also make Tatsuya collect trading cards from around Kamurocho. These can be exchanged for items. The cards include gravure idols like Reika Miki and Kasei Mayuko.

Returning from past Yakuza games is a side quest component, referred to as "side stories." You'll find over 100 in the new game.

Play spots shown towards the end of the trailer include batting practice, UFO Catcher, card games, bowling, karaoke, and massages.

Also included in the play spot section is a look at those three tie-up models that were announced for the game last month. Anne Nakamura will appear as a pole dancer. Yuu Tejima and Hoshiaya will appear as hostesses for the game's hostess component.
