Square Enix Brings Dragon Quest Viewing App to iPhone

DQ pulls an FFXIII on Apple hardware.

Want Dragon Quest for your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad? Well you can't have it. But you can have the next (?) best thing, a Dragon Quest video.

Square Enix made a big fuss today, even sending out a full press release, about how you can now watch the Dragon Quest Monsters Battle Road Victory opening movie on your Apple mobile product. You'll just need to download a free viewing app from the App Store.

This is similar to how Final Fantasy XIII came to iPhone via a glorified image viewing app. Here, the free app you'll be downloading is a movie viewing app called Dragon Quest Monsters Battle Road Victory Special Movie. The app includes the opening movie and a link to info about Victory.

There's a good reason for owners of the game to download the app. After you watch the movie, you'll be presented with card data for six Victory cards. Tap the card, and it will flip over. You'll then be able to use your DSi Ware or cell phone Victory scanning app (this app does not run on iPhone -- I'm not sure if that's ironic or not) to scan the card's contents into Victory.

One of six cards.

An iPad version of the app is on the way, Square Enix also announced today. It will be called Dragon Quest Monsters Battle Road Victory Special Movie for iPad.
