Cave announced its new shoot-em-up Akai Katana last week and promised an August release time frame. We now have something more specific. Arcade operator Alpha Station listed today a release date of August 19.

We still don't know too much about Akai Katana aside from what was revealed through an arcade operator last week. As detailed last week, Akai Katana is a vertical bullet hell shooter where you control a ship that's piloted by two characters, each with unique attack patterns.

The new Alpha Station listing notes that this is Cave's first totally original shooter since Death Smiles and that it carries over the DNA of DoDonPachi Daifukkatsu.

More details should be coming soon as the game goes on location test later this week. Head out to Akihabara Hey starting on the 23rd to take part.
