Capcom Formally Announces Street Fighter x Tekken
Producers set stage for friendly, hyperbole-filled rivalry.
Capcom and Namco Bandai announced their collaboration for Street Fighter and Tekken during a panel at San Diego's weekend Comic-Con event. Today, Capcom delivered a formal announcement to the local media.
The details are basically the same here. The collaboration will result in two fighting games, Street Fighter x Tekken and Tekken x Street Fighter. The "x" is pronounced "Cross."
In the official announcement today, Capcom listed the platform for SF x Tekken as PS3 and Xbox 360. The platform for Tekken x SF is currently TBA. The release time frame for both games is also TBA.
Regarding Street Fighter x Tekken, Capcom said to expect combat and training modes along with a "Tag Match Mode " where you fight by pairing up two characters. The company promised combat with a high level of freedom thanks to the use of this system.
The producers involved with the collaboration delivered statements:
Said Yoshinori Ono, producer of the Street Fighter IV series: "This is history we're making. Two fighting games that have rivaled each other are finally standing on the same stage. This isn't just a showdown between 'Tekken' and 'Street Fighter,' but a decisive battle for Capcom and Namco Bandai, so I'm going to give it my all".
Said Katsuhiro Harada, series chief producer for Tekken, "The ultimate dream match-up is about to be realized. With this astonishing collaboration, a new chapter in fighting game history begins. The 'Street Fighter' and 'Tekken' development teams have a great relationship. However, I see this new project not as a collaboration, but as a competition of the century between two legendary fighting game franchises".
Separately from Capcom's formal announcement, Ono shared a few additional details on the collaboration in a Famitsu.com interview from Comic-Con.
