Shining Legend is... Not a New Shining Game
Two Shining games announced in one week, and neither have anything to do with Shining Force.
My RSS reader was filled with Shining today. There was Shining Hearts, as Sega made official announcement of the PSP title to the non-Famitsu press. There was also Shining Force Cross, as Sega updated the arcade game's official site with details about an online event.
And then, I saw an unfamiliar Shining, a "Shining Legend." Could it be?
No, it couldn't. Shining Legend may have "Shining" in the title, but this new DS game has about as much to do with the Sega series you once loved as Shining Hearts does.
Developed by Kingdom Under Fire developer Blue Seed as the studio's first DS title, Shining Legend is an action RPG where you travel to over 40 lands and partake in over 400 quests, eventually arriving at one of many dozens of endings.
You play as Prince Luchs of Alterrain. Exlied to "the Land of Sand" back when he was fourteen, Luchs has returned now five years later to find his nation in debt following the death of his father. At that moment, Luchs learns that in neighboring Junon, seven princesses have taken flight from the royal palace, and there's a great reward up for the person who finds them. Luchs and his talking cat Morgan head off to search for the princesses in the hopes of collecting the reward money, and also perhaps engaging in romance along the way.
You can read up on the story at the game's official website. The site is available in English, Japanese and Korean.
The RSS item that got my hopes up about a new DS Shining game came from Dengeki Online. See Dengeki's story for additional artwork, but unfortunately no screens.
Shining Legend is due for release this Winter.
