Tales of the World Radiant Mythology 3 Detailed

New characters and more for Namco Bandai's PSP followup.

Joining its teaser update on the new PS3 Tales game, Namco Bandai provided today an update on PSP's Tales of the World Radiant Mythology 3.

Radiant Mythology 3 is the sequel to PSP's Tales of the World Radiant Mythology 2, which saw over 300,000 sales following its release in January of last year. The basic premise is the same, bringing together characters from the full library of Tales games for a fanservice-filled adventure.

If you find yourself desiring detailed profiles of these characters, complete with weight and height, visit 4gamer for the exact text of Namco Bandai's press release.

Joining the classic cast is an original character, Kanonno Grassvalley (voiced by Aya Hirano), a 15-year-old girl who lost her parents, both doctors, in war. She also lost her home due to damage from war, and she and her butler, who served in a guardian role, headed off on travels. At the end of their travels, Kanonno came into contact with Ad Libitum, an organization that helps people of the world, and ended up becoming a guild member. She draws strange locals in her sketchbook, and is herself trying to find out if those locals exist.

Radiant Mythology kicks off as Kanonno heads off on an assignment one day. She encounters you, the game's main character, falling from the sky. You remember only your name (which you're of course free to input), and end up accompanying Kanonno in her work to help people.

You'll be able to create your very own character using an updated character creation utility. You can now adjust character height and will also find additional selections for hair color and other areas.

The gameplay side of things has that usual Tales mix of dungeon exploration and action-RPG combat, spiced up with dialogue skit. Dungeons are played from an overhead view and feature gimmicks in addition to the monsters. Battles feature new artwork from Production I.G for character "Hi-ougi" special move cut-ins.

Yuri's Hi-Ougi special move cut-in.

You'll be able to install the game to Memory Stick DUO to cut the load times for speedier play. Namco Bandai is also including connectivity for RM2, so those with save data from the predecessor can look forward to a bonus. There's also a bonus item included for those with save data from the just released Tales of Phantasia Narikiri Dungeon X.

Namco Bandai is also bringing back the special download site that it used for RM2. Players will be able to upload their characters to the site for other players to employ as NPCs. The site will also offer equipment downloads. Does this mean more green onion swords? Namco Bandai promises a followup report, but it says that this area is being further powered up with the theme of "communication between users."

Similar to its predecessor, Radiant Mythology 3 is a collaborative project between Namco Tales Studio and Alfa System. The two studios are working together on the scenario, although Alfa System is listed as developer. The game is being directed by Alfa System's Naoya Yamada and Namco Bandia's Hideki Hatori, with Namco Bandai's Ryuji Odachi serving as producer.

Radiant Mythology 3 will see release in 2011, presumably after Tales of Graces F on PS3 and before the as-yet-unnamed "Next Tales of," also on PS3.
