Sony Begins Three Month Countdown to PlayStation Awards

Users may be casting votes this year to honor top games.

Just when you thought you'd seen it all when it comes to countdown sites, here's a new one. Sony opened a countdown site today for this year's PlayStation Awards ceremony.

Sony holds its PlayStation Awards ceremony annually. The awards are given to games and creators based off sales. Games that see shipments of 500,000 units are given a Gold Prize. Games that see shipments of one million are given a Platinum Prize.

This year's ceremony will be held on December 3. Yes, that's three months away, but Sony decided to begin its countdown now.

Sony may have opened the site so early because it looks like it will be including a user voting component this year. There's a section at the site for "user voting," but it's currently inactive.

Text at the site also appears to suggest that Sony will be streaming the awards presentation, which would be a first.

For a look back at past recipients, visit the history page at the site.
