Yakuza Of the End Has Melee Combat

Sega details the combat system in this week's Famitsu.

Outside of the whole zombie thing, the big new feature for Yakuza Of the End is its new Gun Shot Battle system. This turns the game into a third person shooter as you blast your way through hoards of zombies.

So does this mean no more picking up park benches to bash people over the head? Famitsu provides the answer in this week's issue.

Of the End retains the melee combat elements of past Yakuza games. You'll be able to engage in hand-to-hand combat and also pick up items off the street to more effectively bash zombie skull in.

Screenshots show Kazuma kicking zombies in the face and Majima swatting zombies with trash cans. One shot shows Akiyama kicking a zombie in the chest while still holding his twin pistols. The magazine notes that you can do melee attacks while still holding your guns.

The melee component occupies just half a page in Famitsu's four page article on the game's combat system. The rest is devoted to the Gun Shot Battle system. We've heard many of the details before, but here's a summary of what's written in Famitsu.

The Of the End shooting system promises to be simpler than that of other shooting games. You'll simply have to turn towards the enemy and blast away. The game will auto aim for you. Also, you have infinite ammo for hand gun weapons. You'll just need to keep in mind the timing of reloading.

In past Yakuza games, you filled up a Heat Gauge as you fought. Once this was full, you could perform flashy Heat Action finishing moves. Of the End offers a similar system for its gunplay mechanics: Heat Snipe moves. Each of the four characters has a unique set of such moves, some of which can be seen in the recently released full Tokyo Game Show trailer (view the trailer here).

Famitsu did not make mention of Heat Action moves in its section on the game's melee combat component, so we're going to have to wait to see if these are still in there.

In addition to solo Heat Snipe moves, you and your partner combatant (which can include characters outside of the three other main characters -- even the hostesses will fight at your side!) will be able to team up for cooperative Heat Snipe moves. Famitsu shows screens from the Majima and Akiyama cooperative move that was depicted in the trailer.

The magazine also details the default weapons that we've seen the crew weilding in the trailers: Kiryu's XK.50 sniper gun, Majima's MarkII.EXP shot gun, Akiyama's twin guns and Goda's gatling arm. You'll be able to equip each character with up to four weapons.
