More Macross Frontier for PSP

Namco Bandai shares details on next portable entry in the Frontier series.

The "Frontier" series of Macross titles took a slight diversion from the PSP with Macross Trial Frontier, a PS3 game that came bundled with the Blu-ray release of the Macross F Itsuwari no Utahime movie, but it's quickly returned with an all new PSP installment due for release early next year. Namco Bandai made formal announcement today of Macross Triangle Frontier, the third PSP entry in the Frontier series following 2008's Ace Frontier and 2009's Ultimate Frontier.

While the game's newly opened official site contains no details, Famitsu.com and its print counterpart have full previews.

The big addition for the game is its new "Academy Mode." This mode lets you create your very own character and experience life in the world of Macross F as you attend Mihoshi Academy alongside the likes of Alto and Michel.

When creating your character, you can set name, birthdate, birth place, and course of study, and also assign base stats for such parameters as power, aiming, fighting, defense, concentration, and speed. The mode kicks off with your arrival at Mihoshi Academy and continues through the end of the Macross F story.

You'll raise your custom character by setting up a weekly schedule of training activities. You'll also be able to experience events with Alto and other characters. Screens show a trip to the beach with heroines Sheryl and Ranka.

The campaign mode of past Frontier games is in here as well, of course. The game will cover Macross, Macross Do You Remember Love, Macross Zero, Macross Plus, Macross 7, Macross Dynamite 7, Macross II Lovers Again, Macross F and Macross F Itsuwari no Utahime. You'll be able to make use of your Academy Mode custom character in this mode.

Developed once again by ArtDink, Macross Triangle Frontier will see release on February 3, priced at ¥5,229. The game will support one to two player cooperative play and one to four player competitive play.

In addition to the standard version, Namco Bandai will offer the Macross Triangle Frontier Itsuwari no Utahime Pack, which bundles the game with a bonus footage packed UMD version of Macross F Itsuwari no Utahime. This will carry a ¥7,329 price.
