Mobagetown Operator Accused of Antitrust Violations

DeNA allegedly issued verbal threats to cut ties with companies that worked with competitors.

Japan's Fair Trade Commission paid a visit to the Shibuya offices of Mobagetown operator DeNA today, acting under the suspicion that DeNA had violated antitrust laws.

According to a report at Sankei News, DeNA is accused of threatening to cut ties with game developers who did business with one of Mobagetown's biggest rivals, Gree. DeNA allegedly made the threats to 100 companies this summer and did end up cutting ties with one company.

Mobagetown is Japan's largest mobile gaming portal, with over 10 million users. Recently, DeNA teamed up with Yahoo! Japan to start a PC version of the service, Yahoo Mobage.
