Level-5 Studio Ghibli Tie-up Tops 170,000

Ni no Kuni barely beats Donkey Kong, but doesn't stack up to Monster Hunter.

A hardcover version of Oliver's 'Magic Master' book is included with each copy of Ni no Kuni.

Level-5's pairing with animation powerhouse Studio Ghibli has received critical praise. So how did the public react?

Media Create's latest sales chart, covering December 6 through December 12, put the game at 170,548 units in its debut week. This might have been good enough for first place, were it not for Monster Hunter Portable 3rd which sold an additional 629,541 units in its second week.

Also impressive was this week's third place title. Donkey Kong Returns debuted with 163,310 units -- not too shabby for a game developed outside of Japan.

Debuting lower in the top 10 were Assassin's Creed Brotherhood and Shiren the Wanderer 5. The latter marks Chunsoft's return to publishing in five years.
