Sega sent out a press release just as the clocks turned 2011 announcing that it will be celebrating this year's 20th anniversaries for Sonic the Hedgehog and Puyo Puyo with a variety of "projects."

Sonic was first released in 1991 on the Mega Drive. The series has sold 70 million units since. Puyo Puyo was first released in 1991 on a variety of platforms. The series has seen a total of 7 main titles, most recently Puyo Puyo 7 in 2009.

The term "projects" in Sega's announcement could mean anything from campaigns and events all the way to actual game releases. We'll have to wait for clarification.

Further details are promised at the special Sonic anniversary site.
