Watch the Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity Tournament Live

Sega hints at new announcements for weekend event.

From last year's fan event.

Want to see some top Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity play? Then you'll want to head out to the "Phantasy Star Portable 2 National Fan Appreciation Festival 2011 supported by Calorie Mate" event, which kicks off with its Tokyo installment on the 5th at Pacifico Yokohama.

Can't make it out to Yokohama? No problem! Sega will be broadcasting the event live at Nico Nico. To view the proceedings, access the following page:

You'll need to be a registered Nico Nico member to view the page. Registration is free, but non-Japanese speakers will probably want to search for an English guide to registering.

The event and broadcast will start at 11:30 and end at 15:00. Attractions include:

  • Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity completion ceremony with talk stages from the development staff and possibly some new announcements.
  • Tokyo preliminaries for Infinity Grand Prix, a national tournament that attempts to determine the fastest Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity team.
  • Mini Mini Infinity Grand Prix tournament where the press face off at PSP2i.

The completion ceremony is of particular note. Sega said in a recent issue of Dengeki that Phantasy Star Online 2 news would be coming in April (probably during the Infinity Grand Prix tournament finals), but perhaps we can expect a few precious bits in advance. Or at the very least, maybe we'll get word of another collaboration.

The Fan Appreciation Festival event will tour Japan following the Tokyo showin this week, stopping off in Osaka, Nagoya, Fukuoka and Sapporo before the finals April finals. Sega says that only a live broadcast of the Tokyo event is planned at present.

Phantasy Star fanatics who want to play along with the tournament players should see this story for details on how to get the tournament mission for yourself.
