Namco Bandai 3DS Baseball Game Has Major Cameos

Characters from Idolmaster, Tekken, God Eater and... Ace Combat? to appear in upcoming title.

3DS's two early baseball games have different visual styles.

Namco Bandai's Pro Baseball Famista 2011 is going to be fighting it out with Konami's Pro Baseball Spirits 2011 as one of the first 3DS baseball games in a couple of months. But the Namco Bandai title has one thing going for it: mega cameos.

As with past entries in the series, Famista 2011 will have a Namco Stars team consisting of well known Namco characters. Famitsu reveals this week that Idolmaster's Haruka, Chihaya and Maki, God Eater's Shio, and Tekken's Heihachi appear on the team. The magazine also hints that a jet from Ace Combat will play ball, but it doesn't say how exactly.

Other cameo appearances will come from Taiko Drum Master, Soul Calibur, Xenosaga and Mr. Driller.

Outside of the Namco cameos, Pro Baseball Famista differs greatly from the Spirits series in its presentation. Players are shown as cute cartoon-like characters. Namco Bandai is promising an emphasis on reality, though. The game promises to recreate the special forms and gestures of players. The game also recreates real bats and gloves.

Famitsu also has details this week on the game's Dream Pennant mode. This is set up like a board game. You'll encounter different events and play matches depending on where you land on the board. There are also spaces on the board for training your players and shopping for player cards.

Pro Baseball Famista 2011 is due for release on March 31, just ahead of the start of the baseball season.
